TAVR heart procedure for inoperable aortic stenosis
TAVR heart procedure for inoperable aortic stenosis
The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure offers hope for heart patients with inoperable aortic stenosis (failing heart valves). TAVR valves are inserted via a catheter through the femoral artery, without requiring open heart surgery. Physicians at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center were the first in Arizona to perform this new heart valve replacement procedure following its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Patients may be eligible for the procedure if they are not candidates for surgical valve replacement. The TAVR procedure gives hope for extending the lives of these patients with improved quality of life. For more information about the TAVR procedure, call the Scottsdale Healthcare Heart Valve Clinic Coordinator at 480-323-3459. For more information and Heart and Vascular Services at Scottsdale Healthcare, visit http://www.shc.org/heart. CAUTION: Federal (United States) law restricts the Edwards SAPIEN transcatheter heart valve to sale by or on the order of a physician. This device has been approved by the FDA for specific indications for use. Cancer Clinical Trials Coordinator
Clinical trials offer hope for those with rare tumors and advanced cancers. Cancer Clinical Trials Coordinators at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare are experienced RNs with advanced expertise in oncology. This is a free service offered by Scottsdale Healthcare to assist those with questions about participating in research studies of new cancer therapies. Clinical trial participants have access to the latest drugs, procedures and other types of treatment. Although there is no guarantee that a new treatment will be effective, many trial participants conclude that the possible benefits outweigh the risks. According to the National Institutes of Health, only 3% of adults participate in clinical trials. Studies show that if given the opportunity and access to clinical trials, 63% of the population would participate. Results of clinical trials may ultimately lead to FDA approval of new treatments for worldwide use. The Clinical Trials Coordinator can help you and your family: - Understand the types of research studies available. - Provide information about eligibility and participation in clinical trials. - Find answers to medical questions about your diagnosis. - Communicate with your physicians, case managers and others. - Help access available treatment and support resources through the Virginia G.
