Our new 10-bed free-standing pediatric ED is located in a separate area away from adult patients and now has walls between patients for greater privacy. It features its own check-in and lobby areas. Previously, our pediatric-friendly ED at Shea Medical Center offered seven beds nested within the main emergency department. Bays were curtained areas, which weren’t exclusively used for pediatric patients.

Made possible by a generous donation to the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, the new eight-bed Gaylord Family Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is located on the 4th floor of tower D, adjacent to our pediatric unit. “With our new PICU, families can stay in their own community and familiar surroundings during a critical time,” said Emily Shumway Nurse Manager, noting it will be easier for parents to tend to other children and matters at home, and nearby family members and friends to provide support.
