Our Specialists Have Advanced Experience in Treating Non-Healing or Chronic Wounds

Wound Management Services

A blister on the foot or scrape on the arm is no concern to most people. But for individuals with diabetes, impaired mobility or poor blood circulation, a simple wound can be serious business. When should one become concerned about a non-healing or chronic wound? Chronic wounds are those that do not show improvement within four weeks and do not completely heal within eight weeks. Wound management treatment begins with a referral from the primary care physician and calling to schedule an appointment at the Scottsdale Healthcare Wound Management Program. Treatment, which is covered by most insurance plans, allows a thorough analysis and plan of care to be developed for healing chronic wounds. The patient’s general health history and the wound are examined. Special tests may be performed in order to gather information about the blood and oxygen flow to the affected area. A personal healing plan is developed, and most treatment plans are completed within 8 to 12 weeks.

Treatments provided by the Scottsdale Healthcare Wound Management Center:

Doppler evaluation -- This test determines blood flow available to transport medications and nutrients to the wound area.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy -- Hyperbaric treatment has the patient breathing 100% oxygen at increased atmospheric pressures, which increases the oxygen levels in body tissue to aid in healing and fighting infection.

Lymphedema-- Patients with wounds and lymphedema complications will be seen, treated and refered to our lymphedema treatment center. Nutrition counseling -- A registered dietitian is available to assist patients in developing meal planning to facilitate wound healing.

Transcutaneous oxygen monitoring -- A test to determine the level of oxygenation available to the wound to promote healing. Vascular and plastic surgery -- The program offers access to skilled physicians and today’s advanced technology. Patients are taught how to care for their wounds at home.

Wound debridement -- A minor procedure to promote growth of healthy tissues in the wound area. Wound dressings -- Proper wound dressing and wound care products help provide the correct environment for healing to occur.

**New patients are asked to bring a list of any current medications and allergies, pertinent medical records and insurance information to the first appointment.**
