Frank"Tres"Mitchell, III, MD, MHA, FACS
Medical Director of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care

Dr Mitchell is the Medical Director of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center Dr. Frank “Tres” Mitchell has a long history in the trauma community and is highly visible at the national level. Dr. Mitchell graduated with a BA from the University of Missouri and earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He went on to complete his General Surgery Residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He is board certified in General Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Mitchell has been a member and officer of the National ATLS Committee and a Region Chief for the Committee on Trauma. He has served as an ACS Committee on Trauma Site Reviewer since 1999. He is a member of the Committee on Trauma Verification Review Committee, and most recently, he completed serving as its Chair. He is active in many professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the American Association for Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Western Trauma Association, and the Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics. 

Charles Kung Chao Hu, MD, MBA, FACS, FCCP
Associate Trauma Medical Director

Dr. Hu has been with the Trauma Program at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center since July 2008. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in June 1998 where he also completed a general surgery residency from 1998 to 2003. Dr. Hu did a surgical critical care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis 2003 - 2004. He is board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He received his MBA from The University of California, Irvine in 2010. Dr. Hu is active in many professional organizations to include ACS, EAST, AAST, and SCCM.

Denise Cornejo, MDDenise Cornejo, MD

After graduating from the University of Arizona, Dr. Cornejo attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, where she completed her medical degree in 2004. Her training includes a general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center. The recipient of humanism and other awards and scholarships, Dr. Cornejo has served as a research assistant with the Department of Psychiatry at New England Medical Center/Lemuel Shattuck Hospital and the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at University Medical Center in Tucson. Her volunteer experience includes the Student National Medical Association and Health Careers Opportunity Program. Joining Scottsdale Healthcare Surgical & Trauma Specialists in September 2011, Dr. Cornejo is a member of the American College of Surgery, American Medical Association and other professional societies.

Parker Fillmore, MDParker Fillmore, MD

After graduating from Brigham Young University, Dr. Parker R. Fillmore attended University of Arizona in Tucson, where he completed his medical degree and masters in public health in 2007. He continued his training with an internship and residency in general surgery at University of Nevada School of Medicine. He went on to complete a burn surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and then later a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Maryland. Dr Fillmore is fluent in Spanish and has received numerous scholarly and research awards.

Sydney Vail, MD, FACS

Dr. Sydney Vail, a surgical and critical care specialist with over 17 years of experience, is the most recent member to join Scottsdale Healthcare Surgical & Trauma Specialists.After receiving his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Vail completed his surgical internship and residency program at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He then completed a fellowship in surgical and trauma critical care, followed by a second fellowship in trauma emergency surgery, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Vail joined Scottsdale Healthcare Surgical & Trauma Specialists from Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he most recently served as associate professor of surgery and an attending trauma, acute care and critical care surgeon. Prior to that, Dr. Vail was the medical director of the trauma surgery program at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.Dr. Vail has extensive experience in tactical medical programs, having served as medical director of the Tactical Medicine Program for the Pennsylvania State Police, tactical medical provider for the Dauphin County, Pennsylvania’s SWAT team, senior medical instructor for the International School of Tactical Medicine for the Palm Springs, California police department and medical director of the Tactical Trauma Immediate Response Group in Phoenix.Dr. Vail is board-certified in surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery.
