Theodore Firestone, MDTheodore Firestone, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Specialist

Dr. Firestone is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction surgery. His practice is limited to hip and knee replacement with special emphasis in complex joint reconstruction and revision surgery. Dr. Firestone has office locations in Phoenix and Scottsdale and performs surgery at the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea campus. 

Dr. Firestone moved to the Valley in 1990 after completing his fellowship in joint replacement and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to that, he completed his orthopedic residency at New York University Medical Center and was a chief resident at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. 

Dr. Firestone is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and has presented original research at national meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Firestone was also listed in Phoenix Magazine's Top Doctors for 2006. In addition, he has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Arthroplasty since 1990. 

Mike Brennan, MDMike Brennan, M.D.

Dr. Brennan is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He specializes in sports medicine and adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery, including robotic partial knee replacements at Scottsdale Healthcare. Dr. Brennan works with his patients on a personalized and individualized level to treat their orthopedic injury or disease. Treatment decisions are made by the patient after a discussion of treatment options, both non-operative and operative

Dr. Brennan received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Brennan also completed a fellowship in traumatology at the University of California in San Francisco.

Bertrand Kaper, MDBertrand Kaper, M.D.

A board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kaper specializes in adult reconstructive surgery, including hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery. He graduated with honors from the University of Chicago, and earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Kaper completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., and an adult reconstructive fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. He has performed more than 3,000 joint replacement surgeries, and also designed hip replacement systems widely used in North America. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as a presenter at scientific and medical conferences.

Brian Miller, MDBrian Miller, M.D.

Board-certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Miller is a member of Sonoran Orthopae¬dic Trauma Surgeons and a co-founder of Sonoran Hip Center. He is fellowship-trained in the treatment of complex fractures and the anterior approach to total hip replacement. Dr. Miller earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the State University of New York. He continued his studies as a fellow at University of California, Davis, and was selected as an AO fellow at the inter¬nationally renowned Hannover Medi¬cal Center in Germany. He frequently lectures to other physicians across the country.

 

Kurtis Staples, MDKurtis Staples, M.D.

Dr. Kurtis Staples received his MD degree from The Medical College of Wisconsin in his home state of Wisconsin where he graduated in the top 3% of his class. He went on to specialize his medical training in Orthopaedics at the University of Michigan. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Staples chose to further his training by completing an Orthopaedic Trauma fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. It was in Nashville where world renowned experts in pelvis and acetabular fracture care and reconstruction, including Dr. Philip J. Kregor, Dr. M.L. Chip Routt, and Dr. Jeffery Mast, served as mentors.Dr. Staples has a particular interest in surgery of the pelvis, acetabulum and hip. He extensively trained in anterior hip replacement during his trauma fellowship, a revolutionary procedure that dramatically reduces downtime for his patients when compared to the traditional methods. He specializes in both upper and lower extremity trauma and fracture management with specific interest in articular injuries. With fellowship training in anterior hip replacement and having performed hundreds of surgeries for anterior hip replacement, Dr. Staples is a pioneer of this procedure in the Phoenix metropolitan area. He also treats disorders of the hip such as impingement, dysplasia and labral injuries.

Stefan Tarlow, MDStefan Tarlow, M.D.

Dr. Tarlow is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with over 24 years specializing in surgery of the knee. Guided by the principles of specialty patient care and individual service he opened his own clinic, Advanced Knee Care, in September of 2008. The Advanced Knee Care name characterizes the focused professional services provided at our clinic. He practiced for 17 years at the Portland Knee Clinic (Oregon) and 3 years at Southwest Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic (Arizona) prior to opening Advanced Knee Care. He was one of the first Orthopedic Surgeons in Arizona to perform the Mako Robotic Partial Knee Replacement (Makoplasty).Dr. Tarlow received his MD degree in 1982 from the Oregon Health Sciences University. His Orthopaedic Surgery Residency was also at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Tarlow's practice focuses on excelling in the art of Knee Diagnosis and Surgery. He is known as an expert in Traditional Total Knee Replacement (TKR). He uses Computer Navigation with a Minimally Invasive Approach for Mako Robotic Partial Knee Replacement (Makoplasty), also know as Unicompartmental Knee Replacement. He performs Patellofemoral resurfacing with the Arthrosurface implant. He is accomplished with Cartilage Reconstructive Procedures (Carticel or Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation), Meniscal Transplant, Knee Ligament Reconstruction, including Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and multiple knee ligament surgery, Knee Arthroscopy, and Patellar Stabilization procedures. Dr. Tarlow is also known for his diagnosis and treatment of complex knee injuries and conditions and receives these types of referrals from his orthopedic colleagues.

Gary Weiner, MDGary Weiner, M.D.

A board-certified orthopedic sur¬geon, Dr. Weiner is committed to pro¬viding high-quality, patient-centered, personalized care. He treats condi¬tions and injuries of the extremities, with special interest in the shoulder, hip and knee joints. His approach to treatment ranges from non-opera¬tive techniques, to minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, and opera-tive joint replacement techniques. Dr. Weiner earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, and completed his orthope¬dic surgery residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. His office utilizes electronic health records, as well as digital X-ray technology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
