Emergency Rooms & Department
at Osborn Medical Center
The Emergency Department at Osborn Medical Center offers rapid and experienced response to ill and injured patients. Around-the-clock care is provided through our medical experts, specialized facilities and equipment. The Emergency Department includes a Level I Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center.
Several years ago, Scottsdale Healthcare launched a project that has made a profound difference in patient care. Studying patient throughput, or how each hospital service interacts from the time a patient enters our doors until he or she goes home, we have realized decreased ED wait times, improved quality of care and improved patient satisfaction. Ours is a model of process improvement that others now follow.
As a result, Scottsdale Healthcare Emergency Department patients typically spend about three hours “from door-to-discharge,” compared to Arizona’s average of 5 hours and 37 minutes. The national average ED wait time is 4 hours, according to a June 2007 study by Press Ganey Associates. The study measured the average amount of time patients spend in the ED from time of arrival to time of discharge.
Our emergency room wait times are posted live and updated every three minutes on fastERtimes.org. These times give our community an honest look at the time it takes to get a patient from the Emergency Department’s front desk to an emergency exam room, reflecting the patient in the waiting room with the longest wait. Of course, heart attack and other critical patients will have priority. The benchmark door-to-heart-catheterization balloon time is under 90 minutes.
