Facing Forward

Whether you are facing surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, there are many physical and mental changes that you will experience. Facing Forward, designed for women undergoing cancer treatment, can help. We will show you how to manage the physical aspects of treatment to your body, skin, and hair and introduce you to the resources we have available to help you through the challenges ahead. Representatives from the American Society for Hair Loss, Genetic Counseling, Exercise Therapy and the Mind, Body Spirit Program are featured throughout the session.

Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Support Group

2nd Thursday of every month, 6 – 8 p.m. 
Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center
First Floor Conference Room

This group is open to men and women diagnosed with this blood cancer, whether newly diagnosed or living with and through treatments. This group is a safe environment to share questions, feelings, and gain valuable information from each other and learn from exceptional speakers who contribute to our group on a quarterly basis. A family member, caregiver and/or close friends are welcome too. Peer facilitated.

Living With Lymphedema Support Group

4th Monday of every month, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  
Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center
First Floor Conference Room

Join us for a monthly interactive and informative class focused on lymphedema maintenance and education. Guest lecturers and specialists regarding this chronic condition will be featured each month along with interactive sessions on your specific questions and concerns. Facilitator: Christy Kim.

Cost: Free

Cancer Survivors Support Group

1st Wednesday of the month – 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
2nd Monday of the month – 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Many people today are living life and surviving longer with a cancer diagnosis. The time after initial treatment ends can bring new challenges and stresses. This new support group is for those living with a cancer diagnosis that have completed initial treatment, and will provide an open forum for sharing and learning new coping strategies for living a full life. Facilitator: VGPCC Social Worker Gerrie Jakobs, LCSW. Walk in program

Breast Cancer Support Group

2nd Saturday of every month, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center
First Floor Conference Room

This group is dedicated to lovingly help breast cancer survivors wherever they are on the path of treatment or survivorship.  Group members listen to your story with gentle hearts while sharing their own stories, knowledge, and inspirations.  Peer facilitated. Walk in program.

Caregiver and Family Support Group 

3rd Wednesday of every month, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center
First Floor Conference Room

Supporting a loved one through their cancer journey, whether by being a direct caregiver or an affected family member, brings its own unique set of challenges. Share your concerns and learn coping strategies in a safe environment. Facilitator: VGPCC Social Worker Gerrie Jakobs, LCSW. Walk in program.

Grief Support Group

2nd & 4th Tuesdays of every month, 3 - 4:30 p.m.
Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center
First Floor Conference Room

Coping with loss is discussed in a supportive and confidential environment. Topics include dealing with loneliness, understanding the grieving process, adjusting to life without the loved one, taking next steps and finding meaning and reinvesting in life. Facilitator: Hospice of the Valley Bereavement Counselor, Ann Hamlin. Walk in program.

Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer (SPOHNC)

3rd Thursday of every month, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Monthly support group offering information, support and encouragement to newly diagnosed patients, survivors, family members and friends. Facilitator: Chris Henderson.

Pancreatic Cancer Support Group 

2nd Tuesday of every month, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Third Floor Conference Room
Bisgrove Research Pavillion (across the street from the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center)

Living with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer brings a unique set of challenges for both patients and families. This monthly “sharing” group will feature guest speakers on topics of interest and time for sharing and learning new skills. Open to patients and family members. Facilitated by VGPCC Social Worker Gerrie Jakobs, LCSW and Susan Yee, RN, BSN, OCN, Pancreatic Nurse Coordinator, Clinical Trials Program. Walk in program.
