Body, Mind and Spirit Program
Cancer may affect more than your physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. Our comprehensive Body, Mind and Spirit Program features a variety of complementary therapies that can be useful in relieving symptoms, alleviating pain and improving moods, attitudes and outlook.
Studies have suggested that addressing your psychological and spiritual health can help in the preventative and recovery process from cancer and other forms of disease.
Improving Body, Mind and Spirit:
The comprehensive Body, Mind and Spirit Program offered at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare provides a variety of complementary therapies. All of which can relieve symptoms, help alleviate pain or side effects of standard treatments and improve your overall physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The program also includes support and educational groups to provide information, encouragement and understanding when you need it most.
The Body, Mind and Spirit Program may begin with a one-on-one consultation with a holistic nurse, who can assess your stress level and goals. The nurse will then work with you to create a plan of care and identify the complementary therapies best suited to your needs.
Our Menu of Therapies:
• Relaxation Techniques / Stress Management
• Healing Art
• Hatha Yoga
• Restorative Yoga
• Qi Gong (medical)
• Tai Chi
Hours for our therapies vary depending on classes and schedules. Some evening classes are available, please contact us for details.
The newest therapy offered in the program is called Reiki. The American Cancer Society defines Reiki as a form of hands-on treatment used to manipulate fields within and around the body in order to liberate the body's natural healing powers. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "universal energy," and is based on the belief that universal life force energy can be channeled through a practitioner and is said to promote relaxation, decrease anxiety, and increase a person's general sense of well-being. This technique is non-manipulative and works with or without touch, as preferred.
Creative Arts Lifetime Pass:
We are proud to offer the Creative Arts Lifetime Pass to all our patients. This pass is available to anyone who has ever had a cancer diagnosis, regardless of whether or not they are currently in treatment. Pass holders can participate in any of our Body, Mind and Spirit programs, completely free of charge.
