Readiness Skills Sustainment Training Program (RSSTP)
This course is currently structured for medical personnel to meet their Readiness Skills Verification requirements. All participants will attend a one-hour orientation. Additionally, the nurses and medical technicians will participate in a six-hour hands-on assessment. The physicians and physician assistants (PA) will receive customized rotation schedules based on their specialties and needs.
Readiness Skills Sustainment Training Program is a 12-day course composed of lectures and clinical experiences. The course is currently structured to support National Guard and Reserve medical personnel’s Readiness Skills Verification/Critical Skills requirements while on Annual Training. Each RSSTP rotation is filled on a first come, first served basis, with priority to Arizona-based units.
All participants will attend a one-hour orientation. Additionally, the nurses and medical technicians will participate in a six-hour hands-on assessment. The physicians and physician assistants (PA) will receive customized rotation schedules based on their specialties and needs.
Specific areas of emphasis include critical care and inpatient skills. Physicians, PAs, nurses and medical technicians receive approximately 11 one-hour lectures and complete approximately 40 hours of clinical duties in the trauma center, regional burn unit, EMS ride along, intensive care unit, wound care and operating room observations.

Steps to Enroll
Prerequisites
Prior to enrolling in the program—and not less than 30 days before the start of the RSSTP--the participating unit must submit unit/individual training needs/requirements to Lenore Portante, Military Education Coordinator. Email:

Additionally, each unit must comply with its Memorandum of Understanding, Training Affiliation Agreement or other agreement governing that unit’s training with Scottsdale Healthcare, including meeting all medical requirements.
Each unit must confirm participant attendance using the Participant Registration Form and
Continuing Health Education Curriculim Vitae no later than 14 days before the start of RSSTP.
Unit-level registration: Participating units must submit the
Unit-level Registration Form to the Military Education Coordinator not less than 30 days before the start of their RSSTP. Included on this form are:
- Unit Name/Designation
- Military service/component
- Unit Address
- Commander/Approving authority name and rank
- Last name/First name
- Rank/Pay Grade
- Medical Specialty
- Civilian education level for each attendee (as appropriate)
- Current competency/critical skills check lists for each medical specialty code
- Confirmation of current licenses/certificates for all attendees (as appropriate)
Once the participating unit submits the
Unit-level Registration Form, the Military Education Coordinator will send the individual Participant Registration Form. Each individual who is scheduled to attend the RSSTP must provide a completed individual Participant Registration Form and a
Continuing Health Education Curriculim Vitae.
