Wall of Valor at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center

Cancer impacts everyone. Some have faced the diagnosis; other have known and supported loved ones through the battle. To honor those we have lost to cancer as well as cancer survivors, Scottsdale Healthcare has created the Wall of Valor.

The Wall
The Wall of Valor is located directly south of the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center, just east of the pedestrian bridge to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea. A seating area with the comfort of mature trees gives individuals a place to rest, reflect and honor those whose names grace the 20 x 5’ wall.

Creating a Tile
4-1/4 x 4-1/4” green, blue and yellow tiles are available for $10 each at Tina’s Treasures Boutique, located in the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at 10460 N. 92nd Street. The boutique is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tiles should include the name of your loved one and any brief message that is meaningful to you. We encourage each tile to be signed as well. After have made your purchase, you will receive a tile and be directed to the Resource Center to complete your message. Take a look at samples to determine an appropriate number of characters for your message. Tiles will be taken to a pottery studio to be glazed and fired. Once a month, tiles will be affixed to the Wall of Valor.

Messages
Because of the tile size, all messages should be brief and easy to read from a distance of 5-6 feet. Hearts, drawings or other artwork is welcome. Paper will be provided for you to practice your artwork and message prior to writing on your tile. If an error, such as a misspelled word, occurs while working on your tile(s), we will provide one extra tile to you at no charge. Sample tiles are available in the Resource Center. Scottsdale Healthcare shall have the sole right to determine the appropriateness of any tile submitted. Any tile considered to be unacceptable for display will be returned to the owner.

Longevity
Tiles will remain on the Wall of Valor for as long as the elements allow. Due to the potential of environmental or structural damage as well as the possibility of vandalism, Scottsdale Healthcare makes no commitment to the length of time each tile is displayed.

Should you have any questions regarding your tile, please email the info@shc.org or contact Tina’s Treasures at 480-323-1990.
