Earning Magnet Status
Scottsdale Healthcare Shea and Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn received Magnet recognition in 2006. And, to ensure that these organizations continue to meet their quality standards, they must reapply for Magnet status every four years. Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak will be included in the next Magnet survey.
A Magnet-designated organization is expected to:
- Develop, maintain and evaluate information processes that promote desired, client-centered outcomes
- Evaluate the organizational plan and its progress in relation to the attainment of patient outcomes
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services administration on an ongoing and systematic basis
- Evaluate its performances based on professional practice standards, relevant statutes and regulations
- Foster a professional environment
- Make decisions and take action based on ethical principles
- Collaborate by using interdisciplinary teams at all levels of staff, including executive officers and other stakeholders
- Support research and integrate it into the delivery of nursing care
To earn Magnet status, organizations apply to the
American Nurses Credentialing Center and undergo a rigorous, multi-faceted evaluation. The standards are tough. The evaluation process is thorough and lengthy.
