Staff

Our SHC family of some 6700 staff members and physicians, representing more
than 50 specialties, are dedicated to healing and patient care. Supporting Scottsdale Healthcare's staff is a corps of 1400 volunteers. In October 2006, Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn and Shea were granted Magnet status for the provision of outstanding nursing care and support for professional nursing practice.
Facilities
- A 337 bed acute-care, non-profit hospital
- We offer the latest innovations in obstetrics, at the new state of the art Family Birthing Center facility. Labor, delivery, recovery and newborn care take place in the same
room, making the birth experience as comfortable as possible.
- Sixteen inpatient surgery suites are equipped for general and special surgeries, including open
heart. The innovative Greenbaum Outpatient Surgery Center is located just steps from the main hospital.
- Our Radiology Department is recognized as one of the leading Radiology departments in the Southwest
and includes full ultrasound, three cath labs, digital angiography,
echocardiography, nuclear medicine facilities, an elaborate special procedures
room, two CT scanners and 4X magnetic resonance imaging machine. All radiologic
studies are posted on a password protected computerized system that is
accessible throughout the hospital, the Family Medicine Center, and from
Scottsdale Healthcare physician's homes.
- We house a full service, 7000 square foot laboratory and a pharmacy that utilizes the
unit dose system for more efficient patient service. Pharmacists regularly attend
our Inpatient Teaching Service rounds and provide practical teaching and didactic instruction.
- Our Emergency Department staffed by outstanding emergency physicians, provides care for over 28,000 patients each year and is the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the state. Our expanded 55,000 square foot Emergency Room and Trauma Center, which accommodates up to 90,000 patients per year, opened in the fall 2004.
- Recently renovated and expanded intensive and surgical care units house 43 beds. Our residents and full-time intensivists collaborate to provide comprehensive critical care to the most challenging patients.
- SHC Osborn received designation as a Primary Stroke Center in 2005 with an eighteen bed neurological unit.
- A Total Joint Replacement Center, specializing in minimally invasive procedures, opened in 2006.
Scottsdale Healthcare Shea
Scottsdale Healthcare Shea is a 405-bed hospital located 8 miles north of Scottsdale
Healthcare Osborn. This facility opened in 1984 to serve the needs of our growing community.
One month of first year inpatient pediatrics and a third year ER-based pediatric rotation
are spent at the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea campus, where the residents work with highly skilled
and enthusiastic Pediatricians, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and Pediatric Emergency Room
Physicians. Currently, many of our second year residents complete their required NICU rotation
at our Shea facility. Residents may also choose from a variety of elective rotations at the
Shea hospital.
The Scottsdale Healthcare Shea campus is the site of a state of the art Women's and
Children's Center, NICU, and the highly regarded
Virginia G.
Piper Cancer Center. The Cancer Center is home to an innovative, multimodal treatment
facility as well as a research center (Scottsdale Clinical Research Institute) that is partnered with the University of
Arizona, the Arizona Cancer Center, and the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).
Scottsdale Healthcare Shea and its Scottsdale Bariatric Center have achieved recognition as an American Society of Bariatrics Surgeons Center of Excellence.

Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak
Scottsdale Healthcare’s third hospital, Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak, opened November 2007. Located just north of Loop 101 at Scottsdale Road and Thompson Peak Parkway, the hospital offers an elegant, intimate setting for those needing general medical and surgical care.
Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak will be able to expand up to 184 inpatient beds to grow along with the communities it serves. At opening it offered 64 inpatient beds and:
Family-friendly ER with 12 private exam rooms
56 telemetry-capable inpatient beds
An 8-bed Intensive Care Unit
6 operating rooms
2 interventional labs
Inpatient and outpatient general surgery, internal medicine (including cardiology and gastroenterology), orthopedics, ear, nose and throat, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, hand surgery
Full radiology and cardiology diagnostic services
Arizona’s first Ambient Experience MRI and CT suites
Other Hospitals
Maricopa Medical Center (MMC) is located near downtown Phoenix and is a
15-minute drive from Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. Our residents spend time at this
hospital during both their first and second years of training. Current rotations for
first year residents that are located at MMC include obstetrics (2 months), and psychiatry (1 month). Second year residents rotate at MMC for newborn nursery (1 month) and ambulatory
pediatrics (1 month). MMC's large and diverse patient base, including many underserved individuals and Hispanic patients, helps to broaden our residents' experiences and expertise.
Phoenix Children's Hospital (PCH) is located in downtown Phoenix and is also a 15-minute drive from Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. Currently our first year residents complete one month of their inpatient pediatrics experience at this fine training
institution. PCH is staffed by a highly skilled nursing and medical staff that
enthusiastically teach our residents during their inpatient pediatric rotation.
