The Training Program Partnership with Maricopa Integrated Health System
The partnership between Scottsdale Healthcare and Maricopa Integrated Health System to provide training and rotations was inaugurated in 2007 with a formal agreement that enabled Scottsdale Healthcare to provide malpractice coverage to military trainees sited at Maricopa Integrated Health System. However, the RSSTP and rotation program was borne of a mutual interest in providing a service to the military and to the communities served by both. The joint effort elevates the opportunities available at Scottsdale Healthcare with additional Trauma, Pediatric Trauma, Burn Center, and Behavioral Health sites located at Maricopa Integrated Health System. The program serves as a model for two large healthcare systems working together to address a common goal. Scottsdale Healthcare Emergency Department and Trauma Center
Since the hospital’s inception in 1962, Scottsdale Healthcare committed to providing emergency services. Scottsdale
expanded in population from 10,000 people in 1962 to over 220,000 people today. As our community grows, so must our emergency
and trauma services.
In September 2004, the hospital opened its new and expanded Emergency Department & Trauma Center. Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn
already logs more than 50,000 emergency patients annually, including over 250 traumas per month. The new facility accommodates
up to 100,000 patients per year at full capacity.

- Facilities: Specially equipped resuscitation rooms and a fully prepared surgical suite are always available.
- Commitment: Support and understanding of the Trauma Center is organization-wide.

Maricopa Integrated Health System
Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS) includes Maricopa Medical Center, the Arizona Burn Center, the Comprehensive Healthcare Center, the McDowell Healthcare Clinic, 10 community-oriented family health centers, a psychiatric services center, two behavioral health centers (inpatient, although one is outpatient as well), and an attendant care program. MIHS is the health care safety net for citizens of Maricopa County. MIHS provides care for all that enter its doors. Annually, MIHS has nearly 20,000 inpatient admissions and 300,000 outpatient visits. In addition, Maricopa Medical Center is a premier training center for the nation's physicians. The medicine, surgery, pediatrics and ob/gyn programs, in particular, contribute to the body of knowledge of patient care.
