The philosophy behind the Total Joint Center at Scottsdale Healthcare is based upon the foundation that our patients are generally healthy people who come to us because they require a procedure to restore their mobility. With this in mind, we have developed a program that is designed to get you back on your feet, back at home and back doing the activities that you enjoy as quickly as possible. In most cases, our patients are up and walking the same day of their surgery. They receive multiple therapy treatments daily and can opt for accelerated therapy programs to achieve certain goals, such as a return to playing golf within a certain time period. Our patients are in their own loose, comfortable street clothes by the second day following surgery, which further enhances their independence and return to normalcy.

Most of our patients are discharged from the hospital after three days or less and are able to go directly back home with minimal caregiver assistance. Because medical studies have shown time and time again that joint replacement patients recover best and most quickly when they can go home directly from the hospital, everything in our program is designed to help streamline this process.

We have developed a pre-operative process, which is a “one stop shop” for patients. A week before surgery, they come to the hospital for two hours allowing us to make sure that the medical clearance information is complete. We also finalize any additional medical testing ordered by the physician, provide a comprehensive joint replacement educational class taught by our own nurses and therapists and complete the financial clearance. This allows patients to go straight to the surgery department on their day of surgery rather than stopping in the Admitting department. All of these services are provided in the Total Joint Center which helps familiarize patients with the environment in which they will return following surgery.

The Total Joint Center at Scottsdale Healthcare is run by a dedicated care team. Our orthopedic nursing staff has received specialized training in assisting orthopedic patients with mobility. Physical and occupational therapists are extremely competent and are able to design specific accelerated therapy programs to help individuals meet their own personal mobility or activity goals. Our physicians are among the best in the Valley in terms of caring, excellence and clinical outcomes. Using the most modern technology and surgical techniques, which allow for a more rapid recovery and longer lasting joint function, the physicians are able to restore the joy of movement to our patients and truly “revitalize lives”!
