Tom Sadvary has more than 35 years of experience in successfully leading nonprofit healthcare systems. A strong believer in being a servant leader and empowering others, his guidance has played a key role in Scottsdale Healthcare’s strong quality of care, patient experience, employee satisfaction and financial performance.
Sadvary joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1986 as administrator of the Shea Medical Center and has served in progressive executive roles prior to his appointment as president and chief executive officer in 2005. He began his health administration career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania and Barberton Citizens Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
Under Sadvary’s leadership, Scottsdale Healthcare has earned numerous honors. Scottsdale Healthcare earned systemwide Magnet designation in 2011, becoming Arizona’s first multihospital health system to achieve the national gold standard for nursing care. Other recognition for quality and safety includes Scottsdale Healthcare’s Shea and Osborn Medical Centers being listed in the 2013-2014 Best Regional Hospitals rankings released by the editors of U.S. News & World Report.
President & CEO, John C. Lincoln Health Network
During a time of noteworthy change in the economy and in health care, Rhonda Forsyth's leadership enables the John C. Lincoln Health Network to expand its ability to meet health care and community needs, improve its financial stability and remain true to its mission: "To assist each person entrusted to our care to enjoy the highest quality health care possible and to work with others to build healthy communities."
Driven by her compassion to help others, Ms. Forsyth devotes her career to creating a clinically integrated health care delivery system that is the health provider of choice in Phoenix and recognized nationally for quality, service and community programs.
The not-for-profit health network encompasses two hospitals, multiple physician practices, and community outreach and social service programs. The John C. Lincoln Health Network includes more than 1,000 physicians and almost 4,000 employees. Nearly 2,000 volunteers contribute about 200,000 hours of service annually in the hospitals and Desert Mission programs.
Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center
As Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network senior vice president and Shea Medical Center CEO, Baker oversees both the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center and the Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital. His network responsibilities also include leadership of the oncology clinical service line. Since joining Scottsdale Healthcare in 1989 he has held several leadership positions. Prior to joining Scottsdale Healthcare he worked at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. Baker is a fellow in The American College of Healthcare Executives, has served as Chairman of The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Masters degree from the University of Illinois.
Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center
As Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network senior vice president and Osborn Medical Center CEO, Pearson oversees both the Osborn Medical Center and the John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital. He comes to Osborn after serving as CEO of the North Mountain Hospital since 2008. His network responsibilities also include Trauma and Emergency service line and Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives. His experience includes more than 27 years of service in senior leadership positions in Arizona hospitals. He has served Chairman of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He holds a master's degree in health services administration from Arizona State University and a master's degree in business administration from Brigham Young University.
James F. Burke, MD
Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive
Burke has held a variety of medical positions at Scottsdale Healthcare since 1991. Most recently, he served as senior vice president and chief medical officer, then senior vice president of medical affairs before being named to his current position. Burke was in the private practice of family medicine from 1982-1991. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1979, completed his residency in the Scottsdale Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program, and is board certified in family practice. He holds an MBA from Arizona State University and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Physician Executives. Burke serves on the board of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, as well as the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Health Professions.
John N. Ferree, Jr.
President, Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation
Ferree has served as president of Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation since 1990. A native of North Carolina, he holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a juris doctor degree from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Ferree’s background includes private law practice, banking and more than 20 years in charitable estate and financial planning with nonprofit organizations. He has served as president of the local chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Planning Giving Roundtable of Arizona. Ferree also has served on two national boards, the National Committee on Planned Giving and Charitable Accord. He has taught and spoken to groups locally and across the nation. Ferree was selected as the Fundraiser of the Year by AFP in 1996.
Alan B. Kelly, Esq.
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Kelly joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2004 as general counsel, became vice president in 2005 and senior vice president and general counsel in 2007. His responsibilities encompass Legal, Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Governmental Relations, Community Stewardship and Scottsdale Captive Insurance Company. He previously served 14 years as corporate counsel for Virtua Health Systems in New Jersey. Kelly came to Scottsdale Healthcare from Thomas Jefferson University, where he was University counsel for nine years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of South Carolina, master’s degree in healthcare administration and a juris doctor degree from St. Louis University, and a Master of Law in Trial Advocacy from Temple University. Kelly specializes in all areas of healthcare law including transactions, real estate, acquisitions, and bond financing. Some of his professional affiliations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Bar Association and National Health Lawyers Association. Kelly is a member of the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bars and all federal courts within those jurisdictions.
Todd LaPorte, C.P.A.
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial and Strategy Officer
LaPorte has been with Scottsdale Healthcare since 2001, when he joined the organization as the director of finance. He was promoted to associate vice president of finance in 2005, to vice president of finance in 2006, and to senior vice president and chief financial officer before being named to his current position. Prior to Scottsdale Healthcare, LaPorte served nine years as the chief financial officer of Dental-Net in Tucson, Ariz. He began his career in healthcare finance with Ernst & Young, where he worked eight years, rising to the level of senior manager before joining Dental-Net. He holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Arizona and an MBA from Arizona State University.
Senior Vice President CIMO
Byerly is a veteran information technology executive who joined Scottsdale Healthcare in early 2013. Her extensive record of accomplishment includes serving as vice president and chief information officer for Stanford Hospital & Clinics in California, where she successfully led a rapid electronic medical records implementation. Byerly also held vice president and chief information officer roles at Lovelace Health System in New Mexico, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Good Samaritan Health System in California and Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. She is a member of the College of Health Care Information Management Executives, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and numerous other professional organizations.
Joanne Clavelle, DNP, RN
Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer
Clavelle the joined the leadership team at Scottsdale Healthcare in 2013 as senior vice president and chief clinical officer. A strong advocate for nurses and Magnet recognition, Clavelle emphasizes the importance of teamwork throughout the continuum of care to foster the best outcomes. Prior to joining Scottsdale Healthcare, she was vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer for St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho. Her career began more than 30 years ago as a staff nurse in coronary care and the emergency department, and her professional interests also include preventive healthcare, health promotion and community health improvement. Clavelle has a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, is board certified in healthcare administration from the American College of Healthcare Executives and certified in nursing administration-advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
James R. Cramer
Vice President IT Operations
Cramer joined Scottsdale Healthcare Corporation in 1991. Prior to that, he was a partner with Ernst & Young in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was first employed in 1987. Cramer earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University, and a master’s degree in industrial administration from Krannert Graduate School of Management of Purdue University in 1977. He is a charter member and fellow of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, as well as a fellow of the Health Information Management Systems Society. Currently, he serves as a board member of the Scottsdale Unified School District Foundation.
Senior Vice President / Chief Talent Officer
Henderson joined Scottsdale Healthcare as vice president of human resources in 1993. She was promoted to senior vice president/chief talent officer in 2010. Before joining Scottsdale Healthcare, Henderson was vice president of human resources for Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina, Calif., where she was first employed in 1991. She is a graduate of the University of Phoenix, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She received her master’s degree with an emphasis in leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2004. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources with the Society for Human Resource Management. She is on the Board of Directors of Jobs for Arizona Graduates.
Vice President, Operations, Osborn Medical Center
Noyes joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2008. Prior to that, she held numerous positions at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz., including associate administrator reporting to the CEO. She earned an MBA in healthcare management from University of Phoenix and also holds a bachelor’s degree in medical radiography from Northern Arizona University.
Vice President, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Thompson Peak Hospital
Post joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1991 and has held numerous positions throughout the organization. Most recently, she serves as the Administrator of our newest hospital, Thompson Peak. Post holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University and a Master's of Business Administration from University of Phoenix. She is also certified in Advanced Nursing Administration from the American Nursing Credentialing Center and serves as a Board Member on the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Richard Silver, MD
Vice President, Physician Alignment
Silver joined Scottsdale Healthcare in December 2008, serving initially as director of the employed hospitalist program at Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital before being named chief medical officer of Scottsdale Healthcare Medical Group. Silver comes to us from Philadelphia, where he was the president and founder of Prime Health Network, a 21-physician private practice. He became chairman of the board of Renaissance, a physician-owned disease management company in which Prime Health participated. Silver was trained at Thomas Jefferson and is board certified in internal medicine with added qualifications in geriatrics.
Mark Slater, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research
Slater joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2007 as vice president of research. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Houston in 1985, as well as a behavioral medicine internship at the Brown University Program in Medicine and a pain research fellowship at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Since 1987, Slater has served on the faculty of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He has worked in several health systems, including Sharp Healthcare in San Diego, where he served as vice president of research and physician services.
Vice President, Finance
Steines joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2007. He has held numerous chief financial officer positions around the country, as well as positions in the Arizona market as regional chief financial officer for Iasis Healthcare, and chief executive officer of Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital, Tempe, Ariz. Steines holds a bachelor’s degree in business and public administration, accounting from the University of Arizona and an MBA/healthcare administration. He serves as a youth leader through his church and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and A.T. Still University. He also has served on boards for the Tempe YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, and as a United Way chairman.
Vice President, Integrated Delivery Network
Uniat joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1999. She currently coordinates contracting for the system, which includes health plans, physicians, joint ventures and vendors. Uniat also provides executive leadership to the hospital system in the areas of utilization management, including inpatient care management, care coordination to the community, clinical documentation, clinical appeals and clinical integration. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and interim board member for the Scottsdale Healthcare Network.
Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive, Osborn Medical Center
Zarubi has served Scottsdale Healthcare since 1981. With a clinical background in medical/surgical nursing, orthopedics, oncology and radiation oncology, she has held several previous leadership positions including nurse manager, director and associate vice president. Zarubi earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Arizona State University in 1981 and her MBA with emphasis on healthcare management from University of Phoenix in 2002. She is board certified in Advanced Nursing Administration from the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Zarubi is a member of the Board of Directors for the Arizona Organization of Nurse Executives, American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International.
