Dr. Rhorer grew up in Chandler, Arizona. He earned several honors at the University of Arizona and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. 

As a medical student at Duke University, Dr. Rhorer completed a year of basic science research studying the effects of cancer genes in orthopedic tumors. His results were presented at national meetings. He studied surgery and medicine under some of the great names in American medicine, including the esteemed Dr. David C. Sabistion, Jr. 

His surgical training included critical care, trauma, joint replacement, sports medicine and pediatrics. During his residency, Dr. Rhorer spent six months at the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children where he had a comprehensive education in children's orthopedic maladies. 

Dr. Rhorer has always been interested in complex trauma and deformity. During his residency, he was fortunate to be one of the first Americans to serve as a fellow at the Russian Ilizarov Science Center for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics. 

Dr. Rhorer studied management of complex trauma and deformity correction using the tried and true methods of the original master, Professor G.A. Ilizarov. After returning to the United States, he furthered his interest in post-traumatic reconstruction and deformity correction by studying the Taylor Spatial Frame, a revolutionary technology using external fixation and computer software for fracture and deformity management. 

Dr. Rhorer completed his residency training at Duke, and was selected to be one of only four orthopedic trauma surgery fellows at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute (FOI) under the direction of trauma surgeon, Dr. Roy Sanders. 

While at the FOI, Dr. Rhorer studied fracture surgery under seven orthopedic trauma surgeons at Tampa General Hospital. In the space of one year he performed over 1,000 cases including 100 pelvis and acetabulum procedures. There are only a handful of fellowship trained trauma surgeons in the state of Arizona. Dr. Rhorer accepts the challenge of managing and operating on these difficult cases. He also treats non-unions and post-traumatic infections. Dr. Rhorer is proud to dedicate his practice solely to complex fracture management. 

Dr. Rhorer is the Medical Director of orthopedic trauma at Scottsdale Healthcare, and is working in partnership with Scottsdale Healthcare to build a comprehensive orthopedic trauma program.

Gregory T. Evangelista, M.D.
Orthopedic Trauma Specialist

An orthopedic surgeon practicing at the Scottsdale Musculoskeletal Institute, Dr. Evangelista also serves as chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. 

He earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City 2001. He served a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University’s Hospital for Joint Diseases from 2001-2005 and was chief resident from 2005-2006 at that facility. He also was an orthopedic trauma resident at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2005. 

Dr. Evangelista served fellowships in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery in Tucson AZ in 2006-2007, both at the Arizona Institute for Sports Medicine and the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. Those same two years he was an attending physician for the Arizona Institute of Sports Medicine and University Physicians Hospital in Tucson. He has been affiliated with Scottsdale Healthcare since 2007. 

The doctor is an instructor of orthopedic surgery and anatomy at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix campus and a clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery with the Scottsdale Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program. In 2006-2007, he was a clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson.

Brian H. Miller, M.D.
Orthopedic Trauma Specialist 

Dr. Miller specializes in orthopedic medicine with Sonoran Orthopedic Trauma Surgeons in Scottsdale. 

He earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center, New York City. His orthopedic residency gave him an in-depth exposure to trauma, as he covered three of the city’s busiest trauma centers. He quickly focused on trauma as his area of interest. 

Dr. Miller was one of only two doctors to study under an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of California - Davis in Sacramento. There, he received extensive experience in the polytraumatic patient, fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, complex periarticular fractures, minimally invasive fracture care and the correction of complications from these injuries. 

He also was selected as a fellow at the Hannover Medical Center in Germany, where he continued his study in orthopedic trauma, focusing on computer-assisted surgery. 

The doctor is committed to keeping abreast of newly emerging techniques and standards of care. He is a member of both the Orthopedic Trauma Association and AO Foundation, the two leading world organizations dedicated to fracture care. He has been selected as AO Faculty to train other physicians in modern fracture care.

Gilbert Ortega, MDGilbert Ortega, M.D.
Orthopedic Trauma Specialist 

Dr. Gil Ortega received both his Medical Degree (MD) and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in healthcare administration and policy from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic externship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. His surgical internship and orthopedic residency training were done within the Yale Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. 

His orthopedic trauma fellowship was conducted at U.S. News and World Report's Top Ranking Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas He also completed an additional orthopedic trauma fellowship at Unfallchirurg Trauma Center in Hannover, Germany. His fellowship training included exposure to complex acetabular fractures, pelvic fractures, and post-traumatic reconstructions. 

Dr. Ortega is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Southwestern Orthopaedic Association (SWOTA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, AO North America, and Arizona Orthopaedic Society. 

Dr. Ortega serves as the Assistant Medical Director of Orthopedic Trauma for Scottsdale Healthcare. 

Kurtis Staples, MDKurtis Staples, M.D.
Orthopedic Trauma Specialist

Dr. Kurtis Staples received his MD degree from The Medical College of Wisconsin in his home state of Wisconsin where he graduated in the top 3% of his class. He went on to specialize his medical training in Orthopaedics at the University of Michigan. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Staples chose to further his training by completing an Orthopaedic Trauma fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. It was in Nashville where world renowned experts in pelvis and acetabular fracture care and reconstruction, including Dr. Philip J. Kregor, Dr. M.L. Chip Routt, and Dr. Jeffery Mast, served as mentors.Dr. Staples has a particular interest in surgery of the pelvis, acetabulum and hip. He extensively trained in anterior hip replacement during his trauma fellowship, a revolutionary procedure that dramatically reduces downtime for his patients when compared to the traditional methods. He specializes in both upper and lower extremity trauma and fracture management with specific interest in articular injuries. With fellowship training in anterior hip replacement and having performed hundreds of surgeries for anterior hip replacement, Dr. Staples is a pioneer of this procedure in the Phoenix metropolitan area. He also treats disorders of the hip such as impingement, dysplasia and labral injuries.

Mitchell S. Wagner, M.D.
Orthopedic Trauma Specialist

Dr. Wagner practices with Premier Orthopedics and sees patients in Phoenix and Scottsdale. 

He earned in medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque and completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He also completed a residency at the New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. His orthopedic fellowship was at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa. 

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Wagner also has a special interest in orthopedic trauma and joint reconstruction. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Orthopedic Trauma Association and the Arizona Orthopedic Society. He serves as an editor for the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma.
