Our Women's Health Services

Women's Health ProgramsDiagnostic Services with a Female Flair

Open back gowns and cold, stark clinical rooms are so yesterday. When it’s time for your next mammogram, doesn’t a plush robe, relaxing tranquil environment with comfy sofas and complementary refreshments sound a little easier to live with?

Welcome to the Women’s Diagnostic Center at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center. Special touches are everywhere like private dressing rooms and a free resource library. Don’t let all this fool you, however. There’s a serious focus on preventing and detecting health issues such as breast cancer and osteoporosis using the latest technology for bone and breast imaging services.

Breast Health

The Scottsdale Healthcare Women’s Diagnostic Center offers comprehensive breast health diagnostic services, including digital mammography, which is especially beneficial for detecting cancer in young women and women with dense breast tissue.

If breast cancer is discovered at our Women’s Diagnostic Center, the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare can provide full treatment and support services while our outpatient Piper Surgery Center provides an up-to-date facility for reconstructive procedures.

The center also offers an FDA-approved foam cushion, called MammoPad®, to create a softer, warmer mammogram. Breast ultrasounds, breast biopsies and ductograms also are available.

But here’s what you may appreciate the most: the procedures are performed by female technologists, and the radiologists who interpret the studies are physicians who have specialized training and experience in all aspects of breast imaging examinations and procedures.

Bone Health

Low bone density can eventually lead to osteoporosis. At the Scottsdale Healthcare Women’s Diagnostic Center, you can have your bone density tested through a simple X-ray procedure. Called a DEXA Scan, the procedure can help your doctor determine if you have bone loss.

This testing is part of Scottsdale Healthcare’s bone health program, which includes exercise classes for building healthy bones, osteoporosis support groups and screenings. The screenings are a 20-minute session with a nurse practitioner, who will educate on bone basics, nutrition, exercise, supplements and medications, as well as assess your risk for osteoporosis.
