Child Life Specialists are non-medical members of the medical care team that serve as advisors, teachers and comforters for pediatric patients and their families. Child Life Specialists conduct developmental assessments of patients, explain procedures in child-friendly terms, support and distract patients during procedures, stage “medical play” to enhance understanding and accompany children during inpatient and outpatient procedures to decrease stress and make the child more comfortable. Our Child Life Specialists are also involved in pre-surgery educational tours.
