Coronary artery disease (CAD), also known as ischemic heart disease, or coronary heart disease (CHD), occurs when the heart muscle does not get enough blood supply. The usual cause is when one or more of the coronary arteries in the heart becomes narrow or blocked, decreasing blood flow to cardiac muscle.
