Significant advances in both surgical and nonsurgical techniques for heart disease have been established in the last decade, in large part due to innovations both inside and outside of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. These techniques include:

• Percutaneous structural heart disease therapies using minimally invasive closure devices for repair of septal (the heart wall between the right and left ventricle) defects
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

• Cardiac resynchronization therapy

• Aortic valvular evaluation using dobutamine stress echocardiography in the setting of low gradient aortic valve stenosis and paradoxically low flow aortic valve stenosis
