PACS System - Physician Connectivity

Picture Archival Communication Systems (PACS)

Picture Archival Communication Systems (PACS) is an industry term for the equipment and software that permits Radiology images (X-rays, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, etc.) to be electronically acquired, stored and transmitted for viewing. Physicians can view images on viewing workstations located throughout Scottsdale Healthcare or remotely from their offices. Scottsdale Healthcare began using PACS in 2000, immediately decreasing the waiting period for your results and diagnosis.

How does PACS improve patient care?

In the old film environment, x-rays are combined with previous x-rays and stored in a file system much like the library. This requires many people to handle the films and can delay result reporting. In a PACS environment, as soon as the study is finished, the technologist electronically sends the images to PACS storage. PACS stored images are immediately viewable at all hospital campuses or physicians' offices. This immediate access, means your results are available quicker. This eliminates the need for off-site storage and retrieval of x-ray films.
