Piper Cancer Center Program at Scottsdale Healthcare, patients can access full support services and benefit from the latest cancer research from the Scottsdale Healthcare Research Institute in collaboration with TGen.
Our Surgeons
Michael J. Demeure, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S.
A fellowship-trained endocrine surgeon, Dr. Demeure is scientific director of the endocrine and rare tumors program at Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare. Since 1991, he has maintained an active clinical and basic research program focusing on the molecular genetics of pancreas, thyroid and adrenal cancers. Dr. Demeure has been named as one of the Best Doctors in America every year since 2001. He has published numerous scientific manuscripts and book chapters centering on his cancer research. Dr. Demeure is a clinical professor at TGEN, a member of numerous prestigious medical societies and is a past president of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. Before joining Scottsdale Healthcare in 2008, Dr. Demeure was a tenured professor of surgery at the University of Arizona.
Jeffrey A. Van Lier Ribbink, M.D., F.A.C.S.
A board-certified surgeon specializing in endocrine, pancreas, oncologic, gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Van Lier Ribbink is clinical director of the Center for Endocrine and Pancreas Surgery at Scottsdale Healthcare and director of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area Endocrine Tumor Conference.
In addition to being a high volume pancreas surgeon, Dr. Van Lier Ribbink also performs a high volume of endocrine surgery involving thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine surgery. In the area of thyroid and parathyroid surgery alone, he averages 320 surgeries per year. His interest in these fields arose during his six years of residency training in surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Van Lier Ribbink is the Cancer Liaison Physician of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons for Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center and a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. In addition, he has been active in charity surgical care mission to Ecuador and El Salvador. Dr. Van Lier Ribbink has been awarded the Phoenix Magazine's Top Doctors in 7 of the past 9 years.
