Plan for Life
The Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center offers a unique plan for cancer survivors and those concerned about their risk for cancer.
We offer a unique Plan for Life program for cancer survivors and those concerned about their risk of cancer. The program provides individuals with a comprehensive assessment of their risk for developing cancer along with a customized plan for preventing the disease.
Our innovative Plan for Life includes:
- Prevention and Screening Outreach — each year, more than 3,000 individuals participate in over 130 risk and prevention programs we provide to our community, including preventive education events, nutritional education programs and screening events in partnership with local physicians.
- Holistic Cancer Risk Assessment — a nurse will gather information on your eating habits, use of tobacco and sunscreen and other lifestyle aspects.
- Personalized Action Plan — based on your assessment and screening, specific steps will be provided for preventing cancer. Results and recommendations will be shared with your primary care physician.
- Follow Up — you will be contacted by phone four to six months after your assessment to determine if you've made suggested lifestyle changes, undergone screenings or have additional questions.
Please Note:
There is a $50 assessment fee that generally is not covered by insurance. However, the clinical screening fee typically is covered by insurance, although participants may have a co-pay. There is no charge for the personalized action plan or follow-up calls.
