Scottsdale Healthcare is no stranger to being the first to offer the latest technology, perform a new procedure or achieve an esteemed designation or award.
From being the one of the first U.S. hospitals with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to opening one of the first freestanding hospital-affiliated outpatient surgery centers, to becoming the state’s first Magnet-designated multihospital health system, these accomplishments reflect the pioneer spirit of creating, shepherding, developing something new.
Here are a few other examples of Scottsdale Healthcare's innovative spirit through the years:
- 1983 - Arizona’s first MRI installed at Osborn Medical Center
- 1985 - Doctors restore a patient’s hearing with a new type of cochlear implant
- 1993 - Arizona’s first Novalis radiotherapy system installed at Osborn Medical Center
- 1994 - Shea Medical Center is Valley’s first hospital to offer newborn hearing screenings
- 1998 - Osborn Medical Center is the Valley’s first hospital with remote telemetry monitoring
- 2001 - Scottsdale Healthcare acquires Arizona’s first daVinci surgical robot
- 2005 - Osborn Medical Center becomes the East Valley’s first Primary Stroke Center
- 2005 - Shea Medical Center named Arizona’s first Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 2007 - Thompson Peak Hospital offers Arizona’s only Ambient Experience MRI and CT
- 2009 - Scottsdale Healthcare is first in the region with LipiScan Coronary Imaging System
- 2010 - Scottsdale Healthcare is Arizona’s only recipient of the 2010 Pioneer Award for Quality
- 2012 - First in the state with all hospitals certified for Pediatric-Prepared Emergency Care
