Chocolate, Grapes and Heart Disease Prevention Guidelines for Women | March 22 | 6:30-8p.m.,Karen Stark, MD, cardiologist, will present on the latest heart disease prevention guidelines for women. The American Heart Association, in collaboration with national organizations dedicated to women’s health, have released new life-saving guidelines for the prevention of heart disease. In addition, Jan Turner, Registered Dietitian, Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation, will present on heart healthy eating including chocolate, grapes and spices. A special chocolate and grape tasting will follow lecture.

The Food and Drug Administration's approval of a new drug studied at Scottsdale Healthcare's Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center Clinical Trials gives hope to patients with a type of advanced skin cancer -- patients who, until now, had no other treatment options. 

Scottsdale Healthcare named Arizona's 1st Magnet hospital system

Scottsdale Healthcare is Arizona's first multihospital health system to receive Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a division of the American Nurses Association. Magnet designation is considered the "gold standard" of nursing care for American hospitals.

TAVR aortic valve doesn't require open heart surgery

Doctors at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center were the first in Arizona to perform a recently approved noninvasive heart valve replacement procedure called Sapien transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR. The valve is inserted via a catheter through the femoral artery, without requiring open heart surgery.
